Here’s a quick look at some of the events occurring in Cumberland County this summer.

Summer Day Camp

The Cumberland County Museum and Archives is offering youth an opportunit­y to explore the outdoors, find insects, learn about dinosaurs and space, discover the mysteries of the ocean and plant a pollinator garden.

Children aged nine to 14 will have a chance to have a blast at the museum during the Summer Day Camp: Adventures in Nature.

The camp will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from July 12 to 16.

Public health protocols will be in effect during the camp. Masks must be worn at all times, including outdoors, when social distancing is not possible.

Kitchen Party

The Nova Scotia Backyard Kitchen Party is an opportunit­y to enjoy local music and traditiona­l Nova Scotia cooked at the Cumberland County Museum and Archives’ new outdoor wood- fire oven. During the kitchen party, held every Sunday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m., locals can bring their own lawn chair, kick back and enjoy local musicians and food.

Each week offers a different taste of Nova Scotia, from fish cakes to blueberry grunt.

Local producers will also have fresh vegetables, baked goods, honey and more for sale the farmer’s market.

Admission is free and prices for food and beverages will vary.

All public health protocols will be in effect. Masks must be worn, even outdoors, unless you can maintain at least six feet of social distancing (for example, when seated).

Strawberry Social

The Strawberry Social will offer up strawberry shortcake, refreshmen­ts and a relaxing afternoon of live music at the Cumberland County Museum and Archives gardens on July 18 from 2 to 5 p.m.

Admission is free while the strawberry shortcake is $5 per person.

Locals are advised to bring their own lawn chair.

All public health protocols will be in effect. Masks must be worn, even outdoors, unless social distancing of at least six feet can be maintained (for example, when seated).
