COYLE, Dorothy Margaret

-

Age 89, of Halifax.

Dorothy’s family sadly announces her passing May 6, 2024. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Gerald Robert Coyle; her mother Julia Levenia Young; and her father Wilfred Sydney Stephen. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Jackie (Ron); her sons Stephen (Katherine) and Brian; and her grandchildren Jordan, Noah, Jacob, Hannah, Aidan, and Samantha. Dorothy grew up in Windsor Junction where she loved the outdoors, skating on ponds in the winter, and biking everywhere in the summer. She was an avid girl guide and played sports including basketball and volleyball. Dorothy was a talented but reluctant pianist. As a young woman, Dorothy travelled daily by train to study and work in Halifax where she met her future husband, Gerald. Later Dorothy’s passions included curling (Mayflower) and golf (Oakfield). Despite her unassuming presence on the golf course, she achieved a hole in one. Bridge was another competitive pastime for Dorothy. She loved hosting the ladies for cards, sandwiches, and sweets.

In addition to being a loving, dedicated mom and grandmother, Dorothy volunteered her time for many important causes, including the Halifax Infirmary, Grace Maternity Hospital, and the Art Gallery. Dorothy was among the first to volunteer at Pier 21. Dorothy will be fondly remembered by family and friends for her warm smile, feisty spirit, and sense of humour.
