Cold front brings temperatures back to reality
You know the saying, what goes up must go down. After an unseasonably mild stretch of weather, it’s much cooler out there today following the passage of a cold front and the introduction of a northerly circulation around high-pressure near the Great Lakes.
Friday afternoon temperatures range from mid-to-high single digits into the low teens – about six to 12 degrees cooler than Thursday. While winds are easing, a brisk west and northwest wind of 30 to 50-plus km/h makes the air feel much cooler.
Temperatures will continue to moderate this weekend and will become near to even above seasonal again – not to the extent of the past week, but parts of the region will be warmer than the seasonal average of eight to 12 degrees.
The good news with the drop in temperature is that the ridge of high-pressure is strong and migrates eastward this weekend, allowing for plenty of sunshine. The only potential precipitation I’m seeing is a chance of showers or flurries in Labrador Saturday and Sunday and a chance of showers Sunday in western Newfoundland.
Then there’s the all-important Halloween forecast, which still features some uncertainty for parts of Atlantic Canada.
It’s looking like a dry evening for most of the region, however, I’m watching the potential for some showers to arrive by mid-monday evening in parts of New Brunswick that might roll into southwestern Nova Scotia.
I don’t expect a washout as more widespread rain should hold off until Monday overnight and Tuesday, but certainly keep an eye on the forecast.
Temperatures will be in the high single-digits, and low teens as the vampires and witches head out, except cooler in Labrador.
Have a good weekend and Happy Halloween.
