Creighton back on Latin American Tour

After missing the cut by a stroke last week, Digby’s Myles Creighton will look to get back on track in the PGA Tour Latinoamerica’s second tournament of the 2021-22 season.

Creighton — one of only four Canadians currently playing on the Latin American feeder circuit for the second-tier Korn Ferry Tour — will tee up at this week’s

Chile Open in the capital city of Santiago.

It’s one of two events the Latin American tour is holding before Christmas.

At last week’s Argentine Open in Buenos Aires, the 26-year-old Creighton fired rounds of 74 and 72 but missed the 36-hole cut by a single shot. Jorge Fernandez-valdes of Argentina fired an 11-under 277 to win the event by three strokes.

Following the four-round Chile Open, which begins on Thursday, the tour will then take a scheduled two-month break before restarting in February in Mexico.

What a difference a year makes for Creighton.

When the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the PGA Tour’s global development tours in 2020, Creighton was invited to play in the LOCALIQ Series, a one-off professional golf circuit organized by the PGA Tour last fall.

The series consisted of players on the China, Latin America and Mackenzie (Canada) tours and was played throughout the American Southeast.

Creighton rejoined the PGA Tour Latinoamerica when it re-started last December. Only two events were held in Florida and the Dominican Republic before it was shut down until later in 2021.

One event was played – 61 Abierto Mexicano de Golf in Mazatlan – in March. The tour then resumed again in June. Creighton’s best finish last season was a tie for 12th in the July 22-25 Bupa Championship in Tulum, Mexico.
