Funeral service for the late Michael Albert Mattie, 72, was held September 8 in St. Peters Church, Tracadie, with Father John Barry officiatin­g, assisted by Father Bill Crispo and Deacon Art Riley. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mr. Mattie died September 1, 2019.

Readers at the funeral Mass were Lorrraine Brymer, Michael Mattie and Jody Mattie. Altar servers were Donnie Pitts,

Myles Somers and Joe Deyoung. Music was provided by Danny and Mary Francis Rodgers and Neil and Mia Decoff.

Urn bearer was Jody Mattie. Members of the Boilermake­rs and Tracadie and District Fire Department formed an honour guard.

Born May 15, 1947, in Mattie Settlement, he was the youngest son of the late Ephriam Thomas and Lena Catherine (Delorey) Mattie. He was a member of the Boilermake­rs Lodge 73 for more than 50 years and Operating Engineers for 30 years. He loved machinery and operated excavators, dozers, cranes and loaders. He worked for many years with Mattie Brothers, A & G Crane, Nova Constructi­on and Allan Macisaac. He enjoyed listening to music, especially fiddle music or anything by Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Charlie Pride,

Tom T Hall and Stompin’ Tom. He also enjoyed old black and white movies, gardening, family gatherings with fiddle tunes, eating at his favorite restaurant­s, going for drives in areas that he used to work, watching for deer and long naps.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Veronica (Connolly), two daughters, Brenda (Ray), Halifax; Joni (Jason), Antigonish; three sons, Jody (Rosie), Mississaug­a; Brad (Kim) Airdrie; Ryan (Larissa), Fort Mcmurray; five granddaugh­ters, Alyssa (Chris), Emma, Halifax; Olivia, Noelle, Mississaug­a; Calleigh Wright, Antigonish; grandson, Eli Mattie, Airdrie; two sisters, Pam Stanislaws­ki, Elliot Lake; Julia Mcneil, Halifax; sister-inlaw Mary Mattie, Monastery; two brothers, Ralph (Kay), Linwood; John (Charlotte), Monastery.

He was predecease­d by brother, Thomas Mattie; father and mother-in-law, Ronald and Rita Connolly; three brothers-in-law, James Crispo, Ed Stanislaws­ki, Bill Mcneil; sister-in-law, Marguerite Hillier.
