Partners for Educational Success Estrie (Projet PRÉE)

-

The Projet PRÉE is the regional consulting authority (Instance régionale de concertation – IRC) on student retention and educational success. Its mission is to promote school perseverance and educational success in young Estriens through the mobilization of inter-level and inter-sectoral stakeholders and through the development of joint initiatives. For more than 13 years, the Projet PRÉE has been informing, mobilizing, educating and supporting the various stakeholders in order to help place educational success at the heart of the priorities in the Estrie region and to promote the qualification and graduation of the largest possible number of young Estriens. Here are some of the projects currently underway or under development by the Projet PRÉE.

Back-to-school campaign: Education, THE Priority!

At the beginning of the school year, it is essential that students with jobs opt for a lifestyle that is conducive to their educational success by implementing strategies to better balance their school and their work. Thus, until September 6th, the Projet PRÉE has launched its “Education, THE priority” campaign in order to raise awareness among employers, students and their parents about school-work balance practices and of the importance of completed diplomas for a skilled workforce. The campaign promotes, among others, the http://ichoosemyemployer.com website, which offers several tools to help students balance their school and their work, as well as relevant resources for employers.

Parentestrie.com: A tool to help guide your child in his school path The Parentestrie.com website was created by the Projet PRÉE to provide parents with a directory of resources – especially resources available here, in Estrie. Parentestrie.com acts, therefore, as a junction that centralizes the best content and references to help parents foster their child’s educational success. The website gathers dozens of articles on various subjects, but that are always related to educational success: learn to identify your child’s skills, discover tools for the transition to kindergarten, tips to promote an interest in reading, facilitate school-work balance and much more.

The transition to kindergarten guide

Although entering school goes quite smoothly for most children, one study found that somewhere between 8 and 21% of children have difficulty adapting during this transition. In light of this finding, the Projet PRÉE made available, at the beginning of the year, the Transition to Kindergarten Guide. This guide is intended for community stakeholders involved with children and their families. It proposes several tools to encourage collaboration between the various sectors and the implementation of activities promoting a harmonious first school transition.

The mobilization of business people around educational success Given the risk to educational success and school perseverance that a context of labour shortage poses to young Estriens, the Projet PRÉE wishes to mobilize, consult and engage more business people in concrete and targeted actions towards these goals. In order to achieve this, a plan to mobilize business people is currently underway to unite the partners of Estrie around a common and forward-looking project for the region, in hope that innovative solutions will emerge that help respond to the needs of the workforce while also keeping young people in school.

Several other projects led by the Projet PRÉE or in which this authority participates are currently in progress. For more information, visit reussiteeducativestrie.ca or follow the @Perseverancescolaireestrie Facebook page.
