Two Sherbrooke Caisses Desjardins vote to merge
The members of the Caisses Desjardins du Nord-de- Sherbrooke and Lac des Nations unanimously voted Tuesday, Sept. 18, to approve an agreement to merge the institutions. More than 150 people attended the special General Assembly to merge the two, which will now be known as the Caisse Desjardins du Nord de Sherbrooke.
The project will be submitted to the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) for approval in the coming weeks. Once this stage has been completed, the Greater Sherbrooke area will be home, as of January 1, one of the largest branches in the entire Desjardins network. It will have more than 62,000 members, over $4 billion in assets and nearly 200 employees. In the aftermath of the union, members will have access to 5 service centers and 4 self-service centers.
At the Annual General Meeting last April, members were informed of the proposed amalgamation and from then on, the managers of the two caisses have been working to ensure the maintenance of jobs and the creation of a more attractive organization for employees in an environment favorable to the development and the mobilization of resources.
Desjardins said that members will now have greater access and uniformity of supply in all service centers
As with the community, the pooling of human, financial, and material resources constitutes important economies of scale and a greater flexibility to support community, social and educational development.
Desjardins Group is the largest cooperative financial group in Canada and the 5th largest in the world, with assets of $227 billion. It is one of Canada's Top 100 Employers, as ranked by Mediacorp Canada.
