Guns galore, 10,000 rounds of ammo seized by RCMP in Viellardville area
A 56-year-old man from Hudson Bay is facing a slew of charges after a cache of weapons and ammunition was found in the Viellardville area in Saskatchewan.
Saskatchewan RCMP said in a news release on Friday that the RCMP'S Prince Albert crime reduction team began an investigation into firearms trafficking in early 2024 and the arrest was made on March 6.
In the search police found 40 rifles, two handguns, about 20 more firearms in various states of disassembly as well as more than 10,000 rounds of ammunition, powder and rifle casings used to reload shells, and boxes of prohibited high capacity rifle magazines.
MINT COINS
Police also seized two crates of illegal cigarettes, mint coins and gold jewelry investigators believed are stolen, as well as small amounts of cocaine and crystal methamphetamine as well as trafficking paraphernalia.
The man has been charged with weapons trafficking, weapons offences and possession for the purpose of trafficking and was remanded in custody until his next scheduled court appearance in Nipawin on Wednesday.
“Dozens of firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition have been removed from the underground market, and potentially from getting into criminal hands throughout Saskatchewan,” S/sgt. Ryan How, north district manager of the Saskatchewan RCMP'S Saskatchewan enforcement response team, said in the statement.
Police also said the investigation was ongoing, and anyone with information should call their local RCMP detachment on 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or at saskcrimestoppers.com.
