Remai Modern Art Gallery: the value of a $45 yearly fee per person membership

As a volunteer with Remai Modern Art Gallery, I want to inform the public about the value of a yearly membership. At $45 for seniors and students, this amounts to a monthly fee of $3.75. Not only will you have access to three floors of exhibits, some permanent and some rotating, you also have access to a diversity of programming.

With the yearly membership, you have free access to the following: movies held every Friday evening at 7 p.m. and Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the beautiful theatre on the second floor (super comfy seats); conversations about art and literature offered by various people held in the atriums, workshops for both children and adults and guided educational tours every Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

I look forward years of inspirational exhibits, interesting movies, insightful talks, creative workshops, and stunning views, all within this gorgeous building located on the South Saskatchewan River. Barbara Morrison, Saskatoon

Petition has value

Re: “Who needs politicians when we have online petitions?” (SP, Jan. 8)

The Canadian Revenue Agency trusts the internet to deliver our tax returns So why is it that our political system doesn’t trust the internet to allow us to participate in political decisions?

In our democracy, I vote one time every few years for a representative who apparently has my best interests in mind, and then let them make decisions that affect my life. And to do that I have to stand in line for a long time. To me, a true democracy would be one where the voting public would participate directly in political decisions.

Kudos to Coun. Zach Jeffries for taking the initiative to post his online petition. Matt Hutchings, Saskatoon
