Queen City Exhibition marks 140 years of history
With the start of the annual Queen City Exhibition (QCX) just around the corner, here are a few new and returning events and attractions to look forward to.
MEMORY LANE
To honour 140 years of history at the QCX, exhibition items will be on display in Banner Hall that have been donated by past volunteers and staff.
“Guests will have the opportunity to reminisce about the fair and how it evolved over a century and a half to align with changing times and current technology,” said a news release issued by QCX host and organizer Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL) on Wednesday.
KIDWAY MORNING
Presented by Regina Plumbing and Heating on Aug. 1, Kidway Morning is “designed to provide a warm, welcoming, accessible and inclusive environment at a quieter pace for youth and young adults,” the release notes.
Guests will get to try rides, take part in a “quiet rodeo experience” with slack athletes, hang out with Jojo's Magic Circus and the Hula Hoop Circus and enjoy the Super Dogs.
QCX EATING CONTEST
In partnership with the Regina Food Bank, legendary competitive eater Joey Chestnut is set to return at 3 p.m. on Aug. 3 at the Original 16 Stage in Confederation Park. “Our organizations are joining forces with a goal to raise 150,000 meals!” said the release. “We are challenging community leaders and amateur eaters to create a team of four and pledge funds to earn a seat at the table” and compete against Chestnut.
FAMILY DAY
Family Day will take place on Aug. 4 and is being presented by Saskmilk. Admission is free for the pancake breakfast from 10 a.m. to noon as well as into the fair, with participants encouraged to bring a non-perishable item in support of the Regina Food Bank.
DISCOUNTS
All first responders, military and EMS workers with an ID will receive 20 per cent off gate admission fees on Hero Day (July 31) in partnership with STARS.
Those with a student ID will also get 20 per cent off admission every day.
And as part of the Newcomers Program, new Canadians are invited to attend “courtesy of North American Midway and REAL District.” The City of Regina will also offer free transit for those with a QCX admission pass.
QCX runs from July 31 to Aug. 4 at the REAL District.
