Globe presents actor's podcast

-

Globe Theatre is presenting Stage Write — a nine-part podcast “about the art and agony of playwriting.”

It's produced and hosted by Regina's Sierra Haynes, an artistic associate with Globe Theatre and recent graduate of the Studio 58 acting program in Vancouver.

The podcast, available on Spotify and Apple, is based on one simple question: How do you write a play?

Globe artistic director Jennifer Brewin calls the podcast “a collection of the most moving and delightful conversations about playwriting that I have had the pleasure to hear,” according to a media release.

It features interviews with nine well-known Canadian playwrights: Keith Barker, Jennifer Dawn Bishop, Rex Deverell, Karen Hines, Marcia Johnson, Mieko Ouchi, Christine Quintana, Donna-michelle St. Bernard, Beth Graham and Daniela Vlaskalic.

A few episodes debuted last fall on CJTR radio in Regina.

“Coming from one of the less populated provinces in the country with big hopes and dreams, being able to connect with established, respected theatre-makers from across our country was an incredible opportunity to learn, listen, and be in conversation with so many people that I look up to while being introduced to work that I was previously unfamiliar with,” Haynes says in the release.

“I am so thrilled to start to connect the landscape of Canada's playwrights for our listeners through this podcast. I think that anyone who likes theatre, stories, or simply a good anecdote will enjoy listening to these conversations. Wash your dishes, clean your room, drive to work, whatever you are doing, we have a story for you.”

Award-winning Indigenous tenor Jeremy Dutcher is scheduled to appear on Oct. 27 at University of Regina Theatre.

The concert is a partnership between the U of R, the Mackenzie Art Gallery and Sâkêwêwak First Nations Artists' Collective Inc.

Dutcher, who's originally from New Brunswick, is a two-spirit song carrier, composer, activist, ethnomusicologist and classically trained vocalist. He has toured the world and collaborated with legendary artists like Buffy Sainte-marie and Yo-yo Ma.

His debut album, Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa, won the prestigious Polaris Music Prize in 2018, and a 2019 Juno award for Indigenous music album of the year.

Regina's Sterling Productions is presenting Seussical: The Musical from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 at the Conexus Arts Centre.

The presentation includes three evening shows and one matinee (Aug. 31).

“Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza,” says a media release.

“Lovingly brought to life are all of our favourite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude Mcfuzz, Lazy Mayzie and Jojo with a big imagination.

The colourful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus Mcgurkus to the invisible world of the Whos while The Cat in the Hat takes us on the journey of Horton and Jojo. Seussical is a story of the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and how when communities are challenged and work together they can emerge triumphant.”
