Four members of the Regina Optimist Dolphins swim club left the Prairie Cup meet at the Lawson Aquatic Centre on the weekend with five provincial records.

Jacob Korpan set new marks in the boys 13-14 50-metre butterfly (26.71 seconds) and in the boys 13-14 100m individual medley (one minute 0.53 seconds).

Korpan broke the 100m IM record (which had stood since 2001) in a heat with a time of 1:03.16, but Brian Palaschuk of the Dolphins lowered the mark to 1:02.61 in the next heat. Korpan then reclaimed the record in the final.

Jessica Dean (girls 11-12 100m IM, 1:13.94), Joseph Wright (boys 15-17 100m IM, 1:00.35) and Quinn Moore (senior men’s 100m IM, 58.29) also finished the meet with records for the Dolphins.

Annika Magnuson of the Saskatoon Goldfins also set a new provincial mark, winning the girls 11-12 50m breaststroke in 37.20.

Results appear in Local Scoreboard.

Two ringette players from the Regina area are to participate in the 2012 under-19 world ringette championship, Dec. 28 to Jan. 3 in London, Ont.

Abbie Treslan, a 17-yearold product of Regina, is to play for Team Canada West. She’s the only Saskatchewanborn player on the Canadian roster.

Canada West is to face five other teams in the tournament: Canada East, Finland, Russia, France and the United States.

While Finland is sending its national team, the other three countries are to represented by Canadian players. The ringette programs in those countries are still developing and don’t have the ability to support elite teams, so the tournament is being used to recognize their initiatives.

As a result, 16-year-old White City resident Jesse Nimegeers is to play for Team USA. Another Saskatchewan product, 17-year-old Jayne Barrett of Saskatoon, also is to play for Team USA.
