Let us help restore order

Dear editor: Thank you to council, Mr. Weeber and all the bylaw, police, firefighters and city staff behind the scenes researching new bylaws, penalties and enforcement strategies.

Taking back our community' is exactly the strategy that is required!

This is the leadership I was hoping for, when expressing concern to council on earlier occasions regarding certain property owners who fail to maintain an adequate standard of maintenance, and/or certain residents who carry on practices that put their neighbours at risk and generally disrupt other citizens’ rights for peaceful enjoyment of their property.

“Proving it” will take some time and considerable effort and expense on the part of both the city and enforcement staff, as well as by the community at large working in collaboration.

This is a great step forward. Undoubtedly more required but let's celebrate movement in the right direction and encourage more of the same!

As a concerned citizen who has invested heavily to counteract “unacceptable behaviours and illegal activities” in our neighbourhoods, I would personally like to help prove it and I'm sure a lot of other community members would too.
