Taxis vs. Uber: The best service wins

-

Re: Cabbies in Uber sting ‘bunch of bullies’, Aug. 7.

With all the commotion over Uber, I haven’t read much from the customer’s perspective.

I haven’t used Uber in Ottawa, but on a recent trip to Seattle, I used Uber taxis twice. It should be noted that Seattle taxi drivers are as upset as any over the arrival of Uber.

During both of my Seattle taxi trips, I was advised of the make and model of the vehicle that would pick us up and also an exact location for that pick up, as we walking around town. The taxi arrived within a couple of minutes of our request and the cabs were spotlessly clean, the drivers friendly, courteous and careful drivers.

We even had cold water available in a small cooler in the back seat. It was a great experience. I wish I could say the same about my experiences with Blue Line in Ottawa. I have been in cabs that were very dirty inside, have been given a non-stop religious lecture, had my luggage thrown in the trunk and have been taken on an unnecessary circuitous route that increased my fare.

Perhaps with better service to customers, Blue Line and other taxi companies wouldn’t have to worry so much about the competition.

Most taxi customers will surely go to the company that delivers the best services.
