Bouchard surprises travellers with gift giveaway at airport
Tennis player Eugenie Bouchard made an appearance at Trudeau International Airport’s departure lounge Saturday to take part in a promotional campaign for WestJet.
As part of its seasonal promotion, the airline hired her to hit balls at a wall behind which were hidden prizes doled out to travellers.
After the event, Bouchard, who failed to qualify for the WTA finals, said she was disappointed after dropping to 83rd place in the world women’s tennis rankings.
“I’m not in a great place for sure,” she said. “This year has really been probably my worst since I’ve been on tour as a professional. So I was really disappointed in myself,” she acknowledged.
“I had obviously a few injuries, which doesn’t help the confidence level in your game and also just in your body and yourself. But at the end of the day, I just didn’t perform as well as I would like to. So the goal is to not think about that any more and look forward and try to do better,” she said.
Bouchard said she planned to take advantage of the downtime in coming weeks to recharge her batteries and make changes to her coaching team.
“It’s about trusting that I do have the game and I do have that inside of me and finding the right way to bring it out,” she said.
Despite her disappointing season, Bouchard lit up social media last week when she posted pictures of herself sunning in the Bahamas in a purple bikini.
“Social media is such a part of our generation and it’s something that I would do even if I wasn’t a public figure. All my friends and sisters and family, everyone, we all just do it as a natural way of life. We wake up and have our morning bowl of fruit, and we just have to Instagram that,” she said.
“I’m just being me, I’m just doing what everyone else does,” she added.
Bouchard said she was looking forward to relaxing with family in Montreal over the holidays.
