An independent agency, the TSB is expected to announce three new recommendations Thursday in connection with its continuing investigation into the deadly train disaster.
It has already issued several safety advisories since the July 6 accident regarding the correct use of hand brakes on trains, leaving trains carrying dangerous goods unattended on main railway lines and cor-
rectly identifying petroleum products before transportation.
In September, the TSB said the oil on the train was incorrectly labelled as being less hazardous and less flammable than it actually was.
Transport Canada — Investigating whether the railway company complied with existing regulatory requirements. “It would be inappropriate to further comment as the investigations are still underway,” a Transport Canada spokeswoman, Josianne Martel, said Wednesday.
Environment Canada — Gathering evidence regarding possible violations under the Fisheries Act and Migratory Birds Convention Act. “As the investigation is ongoing, Environment Canada Enforcement Branch cannot comment further at this time,” a spokesman, Mark Johnson, said Wednesday.
