Montée de Liesse repairs to add to traffic congestion

- CHERYL CORNACCHIA

As if the Dorval Circle, the Turcot Interchange and emergency repairs of the city’s bridges and Ville Marie Expressway weren’t enough to deal with. Add another West Island location to the city’s long list of traffic hot spots.

Major reconstruction began last weekend on Highway 520 and the Côte de Liesse service roads over Montée de Liesse, a two-phase project that will see detours and traffic congestion in the area well into the fall.

The first phase of the work, which began Feb. 26, will focus on the reconstruction of Highway 520’s access roads. The work, which will mean closures of Highway 520 access roads in both directions over Montée de Liesse, is expected to run until July.

Once that part of the work is done, the reconstruction of Highway 520 itself in both directions over Montée de Liesse, the second phase of the project, is slated to begin. That work is expected to continue for another five months and be completed in November.

At the same time, the rebuilding of Montée de Liesse under Highway 520 will be done. That work is set to begin at the end of February and continue right through until November.

Road crews were out last week doing preparatory work. Detours through the area have been put in place and are identified by road signs. A temporary exit has been opened to allow motorists to take Highway 13 via westbound Highway 520. A pedestrian pathway will also be maintained. Updates on the work can be obtained by calling Transport Quebec’s 511 information line.
