Craig Anderson shines as Senators rout Flames

CALGARY Craig Anderson made 25 saves as the Ottawa Senators blanked the Calgary Flames 6-0 on Friday night.

Cody Ceci, Mark Stone and Derrick Brassard had a goal and an assist apiece to lead Ottawa's (2-0-2) offence. Mike Hoffman, Ryan Dzingel and Chris Wideman also scored, while Kyle Turris chipped in with three assists.

Anderson earned his first shutout of the season and 39th of his career.

Avalanche 3, Ducks 1

Tyson Barrie had a tiebreakin­g goal late in the third period, Gabriel Landeskog and Nikita Zadorov also scored and the Colorado Avalanche beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-1 on Friday night.

Jonathan Bernier had 17 saves against his former team and Mikko Rantanen and Sven Andrighett­o had two assists each for the Avalanche. Colorado (4-1) is off to its best start after five games since 2013-14.

Columbus 3, New York 1

With his first goal as a Blue Jacket, Artemi Panarin showed exactly why Columbus traded for the elite forward over the summer.

Panarin snaked through a group of defenders and scored a tiebreakin­g goal in the third period, lifting the Blue Jackets over the New York Rangers 3-1 on Friday night.

Capitals 5, Red Wings 2

The Washington Capitals have been the best regularsea­son team in the Eastern Conference the past two years, and they showed the surprising New Jersey Devils why.

Nicklas Backstrom had a goal and three assists and the Capitals knocked the upstart Devils from the unbeaten ranks with a victory Friday night.
