The Lethbridge Modern Quilt Guild (LMQG) presented its QuiltCon charity quilt, the Lovin’ Curves, to the Lethbridge Pregnancy Care Centre (LCPP) recently at Fabric Fusion.

LPCC is a local agency offering compassionate support and education for women and men facing unplanned pregnancy, counsel for pregnancy related losses and programs encouraging health sexual choices.

“We are so excited to see how the donation of this quilt will impact the women of southern Alberta,” says Danielle Koop, executive director of Lethbridge Pregnancy Care Centre. “The warmth of Lovin’ Curves will be felt by many.”

The quilt was created by a group of talented southern Alberta quilters from the LMQG, which was originally made in response to a challenge from QuiltCon, the largest international quilt show for modern quilters.

QuiltCon challenges guilds from across North America and beyond to design and make a twin-sized quilt to be donated to a charity in their community. The challenge stipulated the use of predefined colours and curves as the main design element, and to involve as many members as possible.

It didn’t take long for LMQG members, Anthea Naylor and Kathy Witdouck to spearhead the project as they organized the fabrics, designed the layout and called upon the other members to get involved on the initiative.

Members of the guild enthusiastically joined in to sew quilt blocks, as Witdouck and Naylor assembled the blocks, labeled it and submitted it in time to be at the QuiltCon competition.

While there were no prizes awarded for this category, all submitted charity quilts will be on display during the virtual QuiltCon show, running from

Feb. 18-22.

The quilt can be viewed online at quiltcon.com.

The Lovin’ Curves quilt is currently on display at Fabric Fusion, and the public is welcome and encouraged to stop in and view the community collaborative quilt.

For anyone interested in joining the Lethbridge Modern Quilt Guild, they meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:15 p.m. Meetings are currently held over Zoom.

Membership includes membership in the MQG with access to hundreds of free webinars, modern quilting patterns, resources and more. For more information please email lethbridgemqg@gmail.com or find them on Facebook.
