Dawgs come up aces in Vegas

- Dale Woodard

The Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs went 2-0 on their Las Vegas trip on the weekend.

The Dawgs edged the College of Southern Idaho 7-6 Sunday night.

That decision came after Friday night’s win when the Dawgs downed Northeastern Junior College Plainsman by the same 7-6 decision.

On Sunday, the Dawgs jumped out to a 6-1 lead after the fifth inning, but Southern Idaho rallied with one run in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh to tie things up at 6-6 heading into the ninth inning.

But in the top of the ninth, Brett Brittany drew a walk and advanced to second on a putout off the bat of Eric Davies.

With two out, Brittany scored from second on a throwing error from second base off a hit from Austin Schibler for what stood up as the winning run.

The Dawgs scattered eight hits in Sunday’s win.

Hitting leadoff, Dylan Flasch was 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

Dalton Wells was 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.

Chris Messer got the win for the Dawgs, pitching two and one-third innings, walking two and striking out five.

On Friday, the Dawgs scored five runs in the fourth inning and added one more in the fifth for a 6-0 lead.

But Northeastern JC answered back with one run in the sixth inning, two in the seventh and three in the eighth to knot the score heading into the ninth inning.

Liam Sabiston earned the win for the Dawgs — his first with the program — throwing one and one-third innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.

Tanner Dalton got the start for the Dawgs, throwing five shutout innings, allowing five hits and striking out six. Sophomore Brett Semeniuk was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Freshman David Leblanc was 2-for-3 and Davies had two RBIs hitting out of the nine hole.
