SUMMERSIDE – A pin drop could be heard during the performance of Canadian folk singersongwriter Catherine MacLellan while she strummed her guitar and sung a dedication to those lost at sea in front of her captivated audience awash in shades of emerald green.

The second annual Green St. Patrick’s Day was a lively celebration of comedy, music, and storytelling at the College of Piping in Summerside, Saturday evening.

“A big part of maintaining a positive spirit within a party is doing things together. Politics can often be a very difficult place to live and work.

“All of our candidates are all now actively out on doors campaigning, and that’s fun but it can be hard work,” said Green Party Leader Peter Bevan Baker, a guest speaker at the event.

“Spending time to celebrate together is a great bonding experience, which we do a lot of in the Green Party, but being St. Patrick’s Day is extra special for us on P.E.I. Last year’s event was a good success, so this is one of those celebrations that ticks all the boxes in terms of fun, entertainment, and raising funds for the Green Party.”

John Dalton, one of the organizers of the event and co-campaign manager for District 22, said the Green party and St. Patrick’s Day go hand-in-hand.

“It’s an excellent line-up of local performers, hosted by Patrick Ledwell, including entertainers such as Juno award-winning Catherine MacLellan, fiddler Roy Johnstone, the green Party Band featuring Peter Bevan Baker,” he listed.

All proceeds of the event went to support the Summerside Greens of Districts 21, 22 and 23.
