Investigat­ing thefts, assaults and false report

EDITOR’s NOTE: The following is a list of noteworthy incidents and investigat­ions undertaken by Prince District RCMP between Jan. 22 and 28:

Vehicles rummaged through

On Jan. 22 East Prince RCMP received four reports of vehicles being rummaged through in Miscouche, Wellington, St. Raphael and South West Lot 16. Small change, a wallet, cash and a GPS unit were stolen.

Woman charged with assault on January 22

On Jan. 22, at about 9 p.m., East Prince RCMP was called to a report of an assault in Lennox Island. A 45-year-old female was charged with assaulting a 46-year-old male. The female was released on an undertakin­g to have no contact with the victim. She is scheduled to appear in court in early March.

Tools stolen

On Jan. 23, at about 4:30 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a complaint of a break and enter into a commercial storage building in Desable. A number of items were stolen including heavy-duty extension cords and tools.

Man charged with assault

On Jan. 24, at about 11:30 a.m., East Prince RCMP got a complaint of an assault that had taken place in Long River. A 52-year-old male was arrested and released on conditions. The male is scheduled to attend court in late February.

False report

On Jan. 24, at about 7 p.m., West Prince RCMP got a call from a female reporting that she was assaulted by her neighbour earlier in the day. Members attended and obtained statements. It was determined that no assault took place and no charges will be laid.

RCMP looking for speeding vehicle

On Jan. 25 at about 4 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a complaint of a speeding vehicle in the Miscouche area, particular­ly on Wilfred Street. The vehicle was a small red car. The plate was not obtained. There have been several complaints of vehicles going at excessive speeds in that area in the past few weeks. Members will be making extra patrols.

Lennox Island man charged

On Jan. 25 at about 4:30 p.m., East Prince RCMP got a complaint that a 47-year-old male was breaching his conditions on Lennox Island. The male had been released on an undertakin­g to have no contact with the 49-yearold female victim from a previous occurrence. The male was located and arrested for failing to comply with the conditions of his undertakin­g. He is scheduled to appear in court in early March.

Checkpoint­s conducted in West Prince

On Jan. 26, West Prince RCMP conducted checkpoint­s in Tignish, O’Leary, Cascumpec and Portage. A total of 132 vehicles were checked which resulted in two verbal warnings. No violations were noted.

Two-vehicle collision

On Jan. 26, at about 3:30 p.m., West Prince RCMP attended the scene of a two-vehicle collision in O’Leary. The vehicles were travelling in the same direction and collided when one was attempting to pass the other. One vehicle was not driveable and was towed from the scene.
