Haven’t we seen this Super Bowl movie before?

Patriots big favourites against Eagles

The teams are set for Super Bowl LII (52) in Minnesota.

It will be the “Dynasty” vs. “Dogs,” or otherwise the New England Patriots against the Philadelphia Eagles. Before this game is even played and analyzed to death, don’t you think we all have seen this football movie before?

The Patriots are the big favourites against the underdog Eagles. New England will trail in the fourth quarter and guess what, Tom Brady and the offence will rally them back for another Super Bowl victory! Can we expect any other outcome?

The Freak hopes the ending might be different for the viewers and fans, but in all reality don’t we know, deep inside us, how this is going to end?

Yes, it would be great for Nick Foles, the back-up quarterback, to lead his team to a Super Bowl victory just like Jeff Hostetler did for the New York Giants in 1990. This happened when starter Phil Simms went down in the 14th game of the season, just like the Eagles’ Carson Wentz did.

In 1990, it was Machine Gun Kelly and the Buffalo Bills (four straight Super Bowl appearances) who were the powerhouse, but the difference between those Bills and today’s Patriots is New England knows how to win, and they will find a different way each time in order to hold the Lombardi Trophy.

Once again, the coaching staff of the Pats showed they are the best at making in-game adjustments and finding a way to win. After game-planning offensively all week with Rob Gronkowski in the lineup, they have the football smarts to be able to throw the plan out the window when you lose someone like Gronk in the first half.

Guess who becomes the difference maker?

Danny Amendola, we didn’t see that coming! He steps up and catches two touchdown passes, and made the huge catch on third-and-18, which was the one play the Jacksonville defence needed to make in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles’ fans and the casual fans all believe they have a chance to beat the Patriots with their dominating performance in the NFC Championship game against the No. 1 Vikings’ defence. Yes, of course they do, that’s human nature and you will see all these dog masks representing their underdog role throughout the playoffs and into this Super Bowl.

They believe in their Eagles’ team, and everyone who isn’t a Pats’ fan wants Philly to win. However, over the next two weeks we will see and hear from every expert out there what the Eagles do well and don’t do well, and what they need to do on both sides of the ball to exploit the Pats. But, at the end of the day, will it make a difference? Hate to be negative, but The Freak’s believes this will just be like the “Groundhog Day” movie – the same outcome will happen once again!

Stat of the week

Since 2003, only four quarterbacks have represented the AFC in the Super Bowl – Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, and Joe Flacco. In the NFC, there have been 13 different quarterbacks, which shows the parity in this conference as only Eli Manning and Russ Wilson have played in more than one Super Bowl.

The other quarterbacks that have represented the NFC are Jake Delhomme, Donovan McNabb, Matt Hasselback, Rex Grossman, Kurt Warner, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Colin Kaepernick, Cam Newton, Matt Ryan and Nick Foles.
