A Lesson from The Fall Season
“Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.” (Romans 1:19)
This verse points out to us that God has revealed (“manifest”) some things about Himself here in the world we all live in. All around us and in the midst of us is a testimony to the creative power, wisdom and artistry of Almighty God.
“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen.” (Romans 1:20a).
By the creation of the world we clearly see something of the invisible God. The wonders of the universe tell a story of the Creator. We intuitively understand this basic Law of Cause and Effect.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.” (Psalms 19:1-3)
This is true in a special way in the harvest season of October with the beauty of autumn all around us.
October
The hardwood stands that dress our lands
In autumn’s brilliant hue Entrance the eye, on hills that lie
Before our wondering view.
They hold our gaze on sunny days
As if they cast a spell, And spirits sigh as leaf and sky
The Maker’s glory tell. In orange bold, and red and gold,
And every tint and shade, The trees resplend and tidings send
Of God and what He made.
The bright red soil, where farmers toil
With goldenrod is gilt, And tilth and tree as one agree To spread a patchwork quilt.
In summer’s strength and days of length
There’s joy in every scene, But autumn’s brief and glorious leaf
Transcends that early green.
Though winter nears, and nature fears
Those leaves are soon to fall, Yet faith can sing of coming spring The resurrection call.
