Mayor mum on city manager contract
The city remains quiet on a private vote by council Wednesday morning on whether or not to renew city manager Linda Cochrane’s contract, but Mayor Don Iveson said an announcement should be coming later this week.
Two attachments were added to the verbal contract update report. Council voted in favour of adding them.
When asked about the result of the vote on the contract, Iveson said, “I can’t yet because council gave instructions to take a couple more steps on that and as soon as those steps are complete then I’d be in a position to say more.
“That will probably be in the next couple of days, but some actual things need to occur before we can speak to that publicly.”
Until these details are finalized, city manager’s office spokeswoman Pat Hutchison said Cochrane has no comment.
“Something about the two attachments has not been completed,” she said. “The city manager has not signed off.”
Councillors Mike Nickel and Tony Caterina voted against adding the attachments.
Cochrane was named acting city manager in September 2015 and landed the permanent role in March 2016. Her current contract expires in March 2019. If Cochrane’s contract isn’t renewed by council, the city will undertake an international search for her replacement.
