Churchill Square is about to put a Ring on it.

Edmonton’s synth-pop duo and global music sensations Purity Ring will play a free show on Saturday, June 13 in the downtown square.

Another local act, Born Gold, and Calgary-bred Braids will also perform.

The show, sponsored by Red Bull, will start at 7 p.m.

Fans who RSVP to redbull. com will receive free remixes of two Purity Ring songs — Dust Hymn by Comaduster and Bodyache by Faunts, both from Edmonton.

Purity Ring, featuring Megan James and Corin Roddick, released their second album, Another Eternity, in March. The two are in the middle of a 44-date world tour, earning rave reviews for what alt sounds.com calls a “memorable” and “mystical” performance, featuring lanterns and fluorescent lights.

“Throughout the night, James disappears between the rope lights dangling from the ceiling and Roddick only becomes visible when the glow of a lantern radiates against him,” reads a recap of Purity Ring’s show in Bristol, England. “At one point James climbs toward the ceiling to strike a huge, moon-like object that illuminates her entire body, all of which only adds to the celestial appearance of tonight’s experience.” WUNDERBAR! (And I don’t mean everyone’s favourite Whyte Avenue venue.)

Germany’s legendary manmachines, Kraftwerk, will kick off their next North American tour in Edmonton. Wednesday, Sept. 16 at the Jubilee Auditorium, to be precise.

Tickets are $75.40 and $95.90 at Ticketmaster.ca. On sale: Friday, May 8. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention … the shows on this tour are all in 3-D.

Over their 45 years, the electronic foursome helped to create a new music genre (or two), released eight albums — including Autobahn, TransEurope Express, and Computer World — and inspired hundreds of acts such as Daft Punk, Ladytron, David Bowie and Detroit’s groundbreaking techno DJs. Was Limp Bizkit’s rhythm section born in Edmonton or is it just a hoax perpetuated by a devilish Wikipedia editor? We might be able to find out when the former rapmetal stars play Tail Creek Mud & Music Festival, a four-day extravaganza near Alix, about 30 minutes east of Red Deer.

Limp Bizkit is one of 18 acts added to the June 25-28 lineup. U.S. metal bands P.O.D. and All That Remains, and Edmonton’s The Order of Chaos, Rend, Whale and The Wolf, and Thrillhouse were also just announced.

According to Limp Bizkit’s Wikipedia entry, drummer John Otto and bassist Sam Rivers were born in Edmonton. But an earlier version cites Jacksonville, Florida as their birthplace. (The two are cousins.)

Anyone can edit Wikipedia entries, which can lead to fascinating but false rumours. One of the most notorious ones involved Baltimore rapper Sisqo living in Edmonton. (He doesn’t.)

Previously confirmed Tail Creek acts include Canadian rockers Billy Talent, country star Brantley Gilbert, and electronic music producers Pretty Lights and Zeds Dead. Four-day passes are $175 to $275 plus service charges via tailcreek.ca.

Limp Bizkit was supposed to play Boonstock in 2013 but pulled out. According to the Journal’s archives, the band has never performed in Edmonton.
