Gifts for the RVer

- By dave halliday

Portability

is an important consideration when buying equipment to go RVing. Some of those portable items can make great gifts for the RVer on your shopping list.

While we’re all familiar with folding lawn chairs, particularly those that can be carried in a bag, folding coolers are also available.

Woody’s RV World sells two folding coolers — the round, smaller version has drink holders built into the top. Both coolers come with folding legs.

Giul Blasco, parts manager at Woody’s at 14510 Mark Messier Trail, said the larger, cube-shaped cooler holds 96 cans of beverages.

Woody’s stocks a large variety of folding items such as a camp kitchen for $89.95, folding metal tables with wood grain finish and a range of folding chairs from zero-gravity recliners to rockers to director’s chairs with attached drink and food tray. There are smaller chairs for children.

In addition to items that improve your time outdoors, Woody’s also has things to make your time in the RV more comfortable such as X-Chocks. They’re installed between the tandem wheels on a trailer to stabilize the trailer.

“That’s where a lot of the movement comes,” Blasco said. “They make a huge difference.”

He said that X-Chocks cost less than $150.

For RVers who want to be able to watch their favourite television shows, Woody’s can supply and install satellite systems.

Blasco said these systems make it possible to watch local TV anywhere from Mexico to Alaska. Today’s systems make the necessary adjustments to bring in the satellite signal.

In one case, Blasco said a woman had a satellite system installed for her husband while their motorhome was at Woody’s for service.

RVers don’t have to forget their favourite sports team when they’re in the campground.

Trailblazer RV Centre at Nisku stocks a variety of patio lights, including one style with Canadian Football League logos. In addition, Trailblazer sells patio mats with CFL logos.

Art Dack, Trailblazer parts manager, said these mats are designed to breath so that they don’t kill the grass. Some campgrounds now specify that these type of mats must be used.

Blasco said he sells carpets with the Team Canada logo for hockey fans.

Trailblazer sells portable Weber barbecues that RVers can easily take along in their unit. Sale prices range from about $60 to $170.
