For the love of tennis

-

SYDNEY — Cromarty Tennis Club held their Tennis and Togetherness event in collaboration with the Cape Breton Connector Program, YREACH, and the Welcome Network recently.

The community-centric event invited locals and newcomers to learn tennis and foster connections with one another. The club was adorned with colourful bunting, creating a festive atmosphere, while dedicated volunteers manned the barbecue and provided tennis instructions. Live music from Alfred Sujith added to the enjoyable ambiance.

The event saw more than 130 participants, including friends, families and children, who delighted in a day of tennis while meeting newcomers to Cape Breton.

The day showcased the extensive range of programs offered at Cromarty Tennis Club, highlighting their commitment to fostering community engagement through sports. Among the notable programs is the junior program, which starts Wednesday at both Cromarty and Sydney River locations, running throughout the summer.

Ocean Le, the director of junior programming, emphasized the club’s dedication to providing affordable tennis opportunities for all juniors.

“We work really hard to provide quality tennis programming at affordable rates, so every junior has access to the sport,” said Le. “We haven’t increased our junior rates because we want every child to not only love this sport but have access. It’s the best deal in town at only $150 for the entire summer, and the club provide tennis rackets and balls if the kids don’t own one.”

Additionally, Le announced the upcoming Cape Breton Open, set to take place from July 19-21, will feature categories from beginner to open levels. Following its successful return last year, the tournament promises to be even better this year, supported by new sponsors Cape Breton Credit Union and Café By The Bay.

More information about the tournament, including a schedule, will be announced in the coming weeks.
