Point Aconi

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Christina Marie Jessome, known to many as Christine Mae, Chrissy and Chris. She passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at the Northside General Hospital, at the age of 97. Born in Southside Boularderie on May 7, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Lucy (MacKinnon) MacIntyre, and step-daughter of the late Agnes MacIntyre.

Chris often said, “I didn’t learn to walk until I was five-years old, and I haven’t sat down since”. Throughout her life she spent many long and happy hours volunteering with various organizations, including Scouts Canada, 4-H, the Ladies Auxiliary and Sydney Mines Senior Citizens. At the age of 70, when most people start to slow down, Chris started volunteering with the Northside Community Guest Home and spent 24 wonderful years helping the residents, enriching their lives as well as her own. Chris then went on to reside there for the past three years. Chris always had time for a “quick chat” with everyone she met and a 10minute trip to the mall would turn into 30 minutes by the time she said hello to all those she knew. She enjoyed knitting, quilting and completing search-aword puzzles. Always “on-the-go”, Chris enjoyed visiting with her many friends, bowling and going to dances. She was always quick to make a pot of tea and bring out some sweets; nobody ever went home hungry. Many friends helped her remain active and she was always very thankful for the generosity of her friends and neighbours in Mill Creek. Chris will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her children Lucy (Albert) Porter, North Sydney, Gregory (Sharon) Jessome, Mill Creek, Alvina (JB) Kearney-Howie, New Waterford, and Andrew (Mary Jean) Jessome, Bras d’Or, her grandchildren Maxine (Jimmy), Brenton (Barb), Sheldon (Andrea), Gregory (Maggie), Mary (Peter), Basil (Trish), Kim (Donnie), Allana (Rob), Raylene (Bernie), John, Jacqueline (Dennis), and Jenna (Norman). A wonderful delight was getting to spend time with her great-grandchildren; Caelyn (Stewart), Kyle, Alex, Logan, Riley, Andi Jean, Lynnea, Ruby, Kian, and Lesleigh, her great-great grandson Lennon. Also left to mourn are her sisters and brothers Sadie Walsh, Sydney, Mary (Joseph) Jessome, Toronto, Catherine MacNeil, Toronto, David (Mary) MacIntyre, Southside Boularderie, and Barbara (Alan) MacIntyre, Toronto, brotherin-law Hector MacEachern, sister-in-law Delia MacIntyre. She was also an aunt to many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Chris was predeceased by her husband Sylvester Jessome, sister Lucy MacEachern, brothers Michael MacIntyre and John MacIntyre, sisters-in-law Muriel MacIntyre, Betty MacIntyre, Lillian Murphy, Jean Derkach and Bernadette MacDonald; brothers-inlaw Jerome Jessome, Leo Jessome and Bernie Jessome, sons-in-law Wayne Kearney and Rick Howie, and very special friend Ernie Simms.

Visitation for Christina Jessome will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2022, from 2-4 &and7-9 p.m. in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A funeral Mass of celebration will take place on Thursday, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Ann’s Church, Alder Point. A reception will be held at the Bras d’Or Hall, following the Mass. Donations in memory of Chris may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice. Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmj obesfuneralhome.com.
