We the family of the late Jean Madore, regret to announce the peaceful passing in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on March 17, 2022, just a few weeks from her 93rd birthday. Jean was born in Benacadie, daughter of Michael Neil and Margaret Macneil. Jean is survived by her son Paul, Howie Center, her sister Peggy Gillis, East Bay; brothers; Dan (Gale), Hugh (Mary Lou) of Benacadie, and Ray of Clive, AB., sisters-in-law, Kaye Anne Macneil of Benacadie, and Theresa (Madore) Andrew of Glace Bay, and brother-in-law Frank Jenkins of Brantford, ON. Jean is survived also by many nieces and nephews. Jean was predecease­d by her parents, her husband Lou; brothers Jim (Kaye), Joe (Theresa), Alex (Doris) of Brantford, ON; and Charlie (Mary) of Benacadie, sisters; Katie (Neil James) of Iona, Marie (Carl) Burns and Annie Jenkins of Brantford and sister-in-law Carleen of AB. Jean began her teaching career in a one room school house in Castle Bay, then onto Beaver Cove, Brantford, and Waterford Ontario, and finished her career as Principal after teaching 25 years in Eskasoni. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Sydney River and longtime CWL member. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of 3B and Palliative Care Unit. Their care and compassion was greatly appreciate­d. A very special thank you to Jessica Peeples for always being there for Jean and helping her with anything these last number of years. To her special niece Georgena (Macneil) Macisaac for her ongoing support and love through the years. Cremation has taken place, and a visitation will be held at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney, on Monday March 21, 2022 from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm, with a Funeral Mass celebrated on Tuesday March 22, 2022 at 10 am, at Our Lady of Fatima with Fr. Jim Oliver officiatin­g. The service will be livestream­ed on TW Curry’s Facebook page for those unable to attend in person. Interment will follow in St. Barra’s Cemetery, Christmas Island, refreshmen­ts following at Christmas Island Firehall, with Covid restrictio­ns in place.
