Businesses adapting to new restrictions

The COVID-19 virus still has a grip on Nova Scotia causing many restrictions on its residents and businesses.

There is no way to tell how long this virus will be holding us captive, but there is a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel. With the vigilant supervision by our provincial government and its top-notch medical professionals, restrictions are beginning to loosen on things like golf courses, restaurants, parks and trails — all the while being closely monitored to make sure precautions are being followed and that the number of cases of COVID-19 does not increase. Some signs that business is returning to normal (granted with some restrictions applied) is the reopening of one of St. Peter's very popular shopping spots — Diddle's Confectioneries & Gifts.

Diddles will open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be allowing two people in the store at a time. All Health Canada rules for COVID-19 will be followed. They will be posting pictures of their products and samples of gift baskets on their Facebook page, so that you can shop from home for curbside pickup. They will continue to offer a selection of gift items. Their phone number is 902-785-3020.

Also reopening for the tourism season in the St. Peter's area is our lobster fishery. It was great to see the boats in the canal bringing in their catch, much to the enjoyment of many who were able to purchase lobster in time for Mother's Day.

Another welcomed sight was the cars pulled up in front of Jiggy's Take Out Restaurant, which opened this week, it was great to see customers following the health restrictions set in place as they waited for their orders.

Chubby's Lunch Bus is also scheduled to reopen for business within the next couple of weeks. We hope as officials monitor the situation closely, more of our gift shops and businesses will also be reopened.

This is definitely one of the hardest ordeals that our people have had to face, but this too will pass and life will continue.

Until then all we can do is continue to follow the restrictions that are in place, as this is what will help stop the virus from spreading and give us a break until the country can get a vaccine to put an end to this medical treat to our citizens.
