It never hurts to say ‘thank you’

- CONTRIBUTED

Whether to thank a teacher in June or to show some appreciation at any point during the school year, there are plenty of perfect moments to thank your children’s teachers for their patience and dedication throughout the school year.

Thank them for the thousand-and-one things they help your children discover and for sharing their knowledge and values with their students. Tell them you’re grateful for how they share their passion for music, sports, arts, languages and the sciences. Thank them for supporting, guiding, encouraging and inspiring your children and allowing them to blossom.

In other words, it’s time to say to teachers, “Thanks for everything.”

A few ideas

Would you like to express your gratitude to your children’s teachers by offering them a little something? You could opt for a pretty bouquet of flowers or a gourmet gift of chocolates, cookies, candies or local products. Keep in mind that tasty food treats can easily be shared when received in huge quantities. Do be careful about food allergies, though. A gift certificate from a bookstore is also a great choice, as most teachers love to read. You have a tight budget? A simple thank-you card from you and your child is enough. It’s always gratifying to know that your work is appreciated, apart from the fact that it can be embarrassing to receive an avalanche of gifts. If you know some of the other parents, you could always group together and offer a gift certificate for a spa or special event. Either would be a great way to forget the more difficult days.

Avoid apples and mugs and anything else that would clutter up teacher’s cabinets and shelves; after all, a teacher has a lot of students during his or her working life.
