Co-chairs named
Co-chairs have been named by the working group for the Sydney waterfront district regeneration initiative.
The appointments of Wesley Colford, artistic director at the Highland Arts Theatre, and Janelle Osborne, co-owner at Finishing Touch Centre, comes after an open house and launch of the initiative in May, along with the introduction to the new shared office space at 15 Prince St.
The initiative features new CBRM staff member Bradley Murphy, who will be working with business and building owners on various projects to attract residents and new businesses to the Sydney waterfront district.
Other members of the regeneration initiative working group include CBRM senior planner Rick McCready, Michelle Wilson of Sydney Waterfront District, Dist. 5 Coun. Eldon MacDonald, Andre Gallant of the YMCA, Joyce Rankin of the Old Sydney Society, Paul Carrigan from the Port of Sydney, Adrian White of the chamber of commerce, John Phalen from CBRM economic development, Joe Costello of CBRM recreation and Holley Grant from the Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design.
The regeneration initiative is a partnership with the National Trust for Canada, the CBRM, Sydney Waterfront District Association and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. Its purpose is to revitalize the heart of Sydney and it will take place over the next two years.
“This is a crucial time to strategically plan for the future of the district,” Osborne said in a news release. “With the empty spaces we have available, support from mayor, council and staff, I see plenty of opportunities that are available to upand-coming entrepreneurs or businesses looking to locate in the district.”
