It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our dear wonderful mother, grandmothe­r, great grandmothe­r, aunt and friend on September 9, 2017 at the Northside General Hospital, Taigh Solas Unit.

Born on April 14, 1927, Cecelia was the daughter of the late Jack and Mary Ellen (MacLean) Barrie of Florence.

Nan loved gardening, cooking, baking and very much enjoyed camping. She worked at the Northside Guest Home for a few years.

Cecelia is survived by her sons, Joseph (Helen) and John (Wendy); grandchild­ren, James (Donna), Tracie (Alex), Elizabeth (Steven), Tommy (Marion) and Jo-Anne (Nick); great grandchild­ren, Kaleigh, Tyler, Emily, Alyssa, Jessica, Micayla, Justin, Kendra and Olivia, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Theresa Barrie, and sister-in-law, Betty Simpson.

Besides her parents, Cecelia was predecease­d by her husband, Thomas; daughter-in-law, Marg Simpson; brothers, James, Percy, Anthony, Bill, Alphonse and Frank Barrie; sisters, Helen Barrie, Mary Ellen LeBlanc and Marguerite Hoeg; brothers-inlaw, Joseph, Bill, James and John Simpson, along with Percy Barrie, Al Smith, and Spurgeon Hoeg, and sisters-in-law, Joan Barrie, Betty Barrie, Elizabeth Barrie and Rosina Smith.

Visitation for the late Cecelia Simpson will be held Monday (Today), September 11, 2017 from 6-9 p.m. at the JM Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Cecelia’s life will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, with Fr. James Oliver officiatin­g. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
