With sadness, we, the family of John MacDonald, regret to announce his passing on Monday, August 28, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Framboise on September 1, 1920, he was the son of the late Dan Alex and Sadie (MacDonald) MacDonald.

John was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 138, Ashby. He spent his working career as a heavy duty mechanic, working on many a farm tractor.

John is survived by his daughters, Phyllis MacDonald, Marion Bridge, Miriam (Bill) Siwak, Hammonds Plains, Kerry MacDonald, Sydney, Delia MacDonald, Huntington and Bridget (Scott) Gillis, Sydney; sons, Paul (Eleanor) and Nelson (Noreen), both of Marion Bridge; brothers, Donald John, New York and Neilan (Judy), Stoney Creek, Ont.; 22 grandchild­ren, 40 great-grandchild­ren and two great-great-grandchild­ren.

He was predecease­d by his wife, Jetta (Gibbons); sisters, Eunice Lively, Annie Shaw and Donalda MacDonald; brother, George Hubley; grandsons, Vincent Paul MacDonald and Brandon MacDonald and two great-grandchild­ren (in infancy).

Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, August 30 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, August 31 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Lydia MacKinnon officiatin­g. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
