CHIASSON, Rose Zabine

New Waterford

-

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Rose Chiasson, 90, of New Waterford on Sunday, June 4th, 2017 at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Grand Etang, she was the daughter of the late Zoe Aucoin and Eli Doucet.

She was also predeceased by her husband, Alex, and twin sisters during childhood.

Ma is survived by her five children, Dr. David (Peggy) of Ontario, Joan (Adam) MacDonald of New Waterford, Gordon of Chicago, Peter (Terri) of Windsor, and Anne (Terry) MacNeil of River Ryan; her nine grandchildren, Daniel (Becca) and Matthew (Laura) Burke, Colin (Chelsea), James (Jean), Michael and Terryn (Alex) MacNeil, Andrew Chiasson, Simon and Cameron Ramsay, and Robin Clarke; her brother, Leo of Kentville, and his children, Donna, Barb, Richard and Tommy. She was especially close to Eileen (who was like a sister to her); as well as godchild, Elaine, Lillian, Pauline and March.

In her younger years, Ma worked at Canada Post. She also looked after the books for New Waterford Physiotherapy for over 25 years (without the use of a calculator). She enjoyed skating and bowling into her 70’s, reading, going to the casino, walks with her special ‘sister,’ Zabeth, and playing cards with her best friends, Joe & Alice Muise and Sr. Mary Ann Chiasson. Ma was a baker extra-ordinaire, and her sweets, fricot and meatpies will be greatly missed by her family. In later years, she enjoyed the friendships she made at both Aging Gracefully (especially Anita) and at the senior’s Exercise classes at New Waterford Physiotherapy. She was a devout Catholic who loved the Mass and her daily prayers. She had a special place in her heart for Fr. Ray Huntley.

Thank you to everyone who attended Ma’s 90th birthday party in September. This was a true celebration of her wonderful life. There was much love in the air that day and she appreciated every single person who was there!

The wake will be held at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, NS, 902-862-7500, on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 from 5-9 p.m.

Funeral mass will be Thursday, June 8 at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard’s Parish with Father Ray Huntley officiating.
