Douglas Joseph ‘Dougie’ Hall

Dougie Hall, age 52 of New Waterford, passed away on Saturday, April 5th, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in New Waterford, he was the son of Winnifred ‘ Winnie’ (Slaney) Hall and the late John ‘Big Dan’ Hall.

Dougie loved fishing, camping, playing poker and watching his favourite hockey team the Montreal Canadiens. He will be remembered for his great sense of humour and pleasant nature.

Besides his mother, Dougie is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Hall (Daniel); son, Travis (Amanda); two brothers, Ambrose, Bernie all in New Waterford; five sisters, Beatrice (Robert) Marshe, Cheryl (Mark) Murphy, New Waterford, Gail (Billy) MacDonald, Alice (David) Caines, Rose, Glace Bay; four grandchild­ren, Emma Hiscock, Paige Hiscock, Avaeh Hiscock, Carly McPhee and his dearest friend, Diane Burke.

Besides his father, Dougie was predecease­d by his son, Matthew and his brother, John James Hall.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivra­y Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass officiated by Rev. Ray Huntley is Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard Church. Interment in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. All are invited to join the family for a reception at the Army, Navy, Airforce Hall.

As an expression of sympathy for Dougie, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Cancer Society or Palliative care.
