A Calgary mom is recalling how a bullet fired into their northwest home bounced around their living room as her husband and children watched TV.

It is one of two separate shooting incidents Sunday night being investigated by police.

The first incident happened about 9:30 p.m. when Sgt. Trent Petersen, with the Calgary Police Service, said officers were called to the 4500 block of Bowness Rd. N.W. after a homeowner reported a bullet had been “shot into the residence.”

Caitlyn Smith said she was at home with her husband and two teenage children when she heard “loud cracking noises” coming from the living room where her husband and daughter were watching TV. She ran into the room thinking someone may have broken a window only to find a “quite large” hole in the wall and a bullet on the carpet.

“It had bounced around the living room, which was the scariest thing; that it didn’t lodge into the wall,” Smith said.

She said the bullet came into the house above the family’s piano at around the same height as her head.

Investigators arrived on scene and the family was taken out of the home while police searched for evidence, with Smith saying her children were a little rattled but “handled it really well.”

About an hour and a half later, Petersen said police received multiple 911 calls about another shooting incident.

Petersen said callers reported multiple gunshots coming from the parking lot of the Midtown Co- Op at 1130 11 Ave S.W.

Beth Allan, who lives near the scene, said on Twitter she heard “five really close gunshots” and saw people running through the parking lot near the downtown venue Music Calgary.

No injuries were reported at the second scene and police are still investigating both shootings.

Petersen said there is no reason to believe the incidents are connected.

Anyone or with information about the shootings or CCTV footage of either incident is asked to call the Calgary Police Service.
