What’s happening at your favourite snowy slopes

- CASTLE MOUNTAIN

LAKE LOUISE

Maybe the snowfall has slowed down a little bit over the past week at Lake Louise, but that hardly matters when the resort was already dealing with some of the best early-season conditions that Banff National Park has ever seen. The best way to take in everything Lake Louise offers might be the $109 Lake Louise Plus Cards. www.skilouise.com twitter.com/SkiLouise

SUNSHINE VILLAGE

Mother Nature has been awfully good to the folks at Sunshine Village this year, and it’s got the Banff resort set-up for one heck of an exciting holiday season. The mountain’s been hit with trace amounts of snow in the past week, but with 299 cm already hitting the resort’s slopes this season, there’s plenty to go around. They’ll be celebrating this weekend by throwing a Bourgeau Bonfire Bash. www.skibanff.com twitter.com/ Sunshine Village

NORQUAY

So it’s almost Christmas and you’re worried that time is running out to use your Santa Claus outfit? Just head to Mount Norquay on Christmas Day, where anyone dressed up as St. Nick — or anyone else who spends time around Santa’s workshop — can get a full day lift ticket for free. The resort hasn’t received much snow in the past week, but Norquay has already been blanketed by 89 cm. www.banffnorquay.com twitter.com/MtNorquay

COP

Temperatures in Calgary may be soaring well-above what we’re used to for this time of the year, but we all know that won’t last forever. Over at COP, the folks at WinSport have a bunch of runs open and are offering up a couple holiday season deals that will have skiers and snowboarders rushing to the hill. www.winsport.ca

NAKISKA

There’s already a tonne for guests to do when they make the short trek out to Kananaskis for a day at Nakiska. On Saturday, they’re adding tubing to the docket. There hasn’t been much new snow in the past week, but with 122 cm of powder hitting the mountain earlier in the season, there’s no shortage. www.skinakiska.com twitter.com/ SkiNakiska

MARMOT BASIN

They’re rightfully excited about Tres Hombres at Marmot Basin this season. Why wouldn’t they be? But that’s not all that’s going on in Jasper this year. Marmot’s $75 Escape Card offers 50 per cent discounts on lift tickets all season long. Mother Nature has blessed the resort with 202 cm of powder so far this season. www.skimarmot.com twitter.com/MarmotBasin

FERNIE

They are going big for the holiday season this year at Fernie. The Southern-B.C. resort has packed its calendar with events, everything from holiday sleigh rides from Dec. 21 to Jan. 5, holiday activities for kids starting Dec. 22 and photos with Santa Claus on Dec. 23. There’s lots of snow, too: 293 cm so far. www.skifernie.com twitter.com/ SkiFernie

PANORAMA

While new snow has been a little hard to come by in some parts of the Rockies over the past week or so, there’s been no shortage at Panorama. The B.C. resort has been blasted with 11 cm in the last seven days, and that brought the season total to an awesome 180 cm. Panorama has added a new area with four double-black lines. www.panoramaresort.com twitter.com/panoramaresort

REVELSTOKE

Even when the snow isn’t falling non-stop at Revelstoke, there’s almost always enough powder. Sure, Revelstoke was only hit with 1 cm of new snow in the past week, but 400 cm of snow are already blanketing the slopes. Revelstoke is offering a three- or five-day vertical card that’s exclusive to Western Canadians. www.revelstokemountainresort.com twitter.com/revelstokemtn

KIMBERLEY

Looking for powder? Well, there might not be anywhere in Western Canada that’s been hit by as much snow as Kimberley in the past week. Over the past seven days alone, the B.C. resort has been blasted by 18 cm, and that brought the season total to 193 cm. Skiers and snowboarders should look into the RCR Rockies card, where guests get their first, fourth and seventh day on the mountains free. www.skikimberley.com twitter.com/ SkiKimberley

The wait is over. At long-last, the good folks at Castle Mountain are turning on their lifts. While it’s been a bit dry recently, Castle was granted a license to triple their snow-making capacity and will have both the Buckaroo and Green Chairs open from Friday to Sunday. www.skicastle.ca twitter.com/ SkiCastle
