People in the market for a starter single-family home have new reasons for turning to Calgary’s reining Community of the Year.

Six show homes displaying laned single-family models open in the southeast community of Legacy by WestCreek Developments on Saturday.

Laned homes in Legacy start from the $400,000s.

Legacy earned its second straight Community of the Year-City of Calgary title at the recent Calgary Region SAM (Sales and Marketing) Awards.

This is the first release of laned homes in Legacy in about a year. Lots for these homes are available near the community’s environmental reserve and a school through the Calgary Catholic School Division that’s now under construction.

“It’s a great location,” says Kalida Goldade, WestCreek’s marketing manager, adding these lots are also near 210th Avenue S., giving residents easy access in and out of the community.

The show homes are through Jayman Built, Stepper Homes, and Shane Homes, and are located at Legacy Glen Row S.E.

“They’re gorgeous,” says Goldade. “One of the great things about these homes are the front entryways. They’re welcoming and follow along with the architectural controls you see in the rest of Legacy ... very high-quality.”

She singles out the opportunity for large front porches, adding “they open you up to speak to your neighbours.”

Jayman’s show homes are the 2,001-square-foot Avid and the 1,620-square-foot Opus. The Opus boasts a second floor bonus room as standard, and the Avid has a main floor den that can be turned into an additional bedroom.

For Shane, the show homes are the 1,457-square-foot Ventura, and its Sienna, measuring 1,561 square feet. The kitchens in each show home tout attractive upgrades with the Venture showing a threeinch crown moulding, additional drawer and stylish Poco brick glass mosaic backsplash.

Stepper’s show homes are the 1,693-square-foot Kennedy and 1,503- square- foot Pacific. The builder calls the Pacific one of its most sought-after models. It has been updated and made larger.

Legacy has 15 kilometres of paved walking paths that stretch past playgrounds, ponds, and other green spaces. It also boasts 121 hectares (300 acres) of developer-protected environmental reserve.

And it’s set to add to its outdoor features, opening a community garden May 15.

The garden will have 65 beds, with plots measuring either three feet by four feet or three feet by eight feet in size. Residents will have either one or two years of time with the community garden, depending on the plot.

People interested in taking on a plot are encouraged to go to the residents’ association website legacyresidents.ca/garden

Goldade says the community garden has been met with a warm reception from residents, including some who have talked about starting a Facebook group.

“We’ve had a lot of positive talk from people in the community,” she says. “It’s something we’ve talked about since the beginning, and to be able to bring it to the community, it’s been a big deal for a lot of the people joining.”
