Two men are facing a long list of charges after a crime spree north of Calgary.

RCMP say the incident started Monday when a truck was stolen from within the city limits.

At 5:20 p.m., RCMP were told a blue truck with two occupants was seen driving erratically on Highway 2 near Carstairs.

When a sheriff tried to pull over the vehicle, the truck rammed the sheriff’s vehicle, sending it off the highway and into the cable barrier in the median.

RCMP spokesman Cpl. Darrin Turnbull described it as a “hard, violent hit.”

The sheriff was treated and released from an Airdrie clinic.

After that collision, the truck drove onto a range road but was involved in another crash and went off the road and into the ditch.

A Samaritan tried to help out but was punched and had his truck stolen. He reported the incident to authorities.

The suspects were involved in another crash, this time in the second stolen truck, and were finally apprehended.

Both men are previously known to police. The sheriff is recovering. “You go to work expecting to go to work and not to be intentionally rammed off the road in a clear attempt not only to evade apprehension but to injure. He could have been killed,” said Turnbull.

The investigation is ongoing and could connect the vehicle to another incident on Monday

“We’re now investigating to determine if that blue Ford pickup truck was the same blue Ford pickup truck that was involved in a pedestrian hit and run that occurred earlier in the day in Cochrane,” said Turnbull

That pedestrian suffered minor injuries.
