Stantec eyes larger oilpatch projects
Edmonton-based Stantec continued its aggressive expansion by announcing Thursday that it’s acquiring Calgary’s Cimarron Engineering Ltd.
Cimarron is a 290-person engineering consulting company that specializes in oil and gas pipeline systems and station facilities. Its current projects include TransCanada’s Keystone pipeline between Canada and the U.S. and Enbridge’s Woodland pipeline in northern Alberta. Cimarron also has a power division that designs medium to high voltage electrical systems for utilities and oil and gas clients.
“Cimarron’s history and reputation in the oil and gas industry is very strong, and we are pleased to bring a team of this depth and experience into Stantec,” Bob Gomes, Stantec president and chief executive, said in a release.
“This acquisition will greatly enhance our overall capacity to take on large-scale oil and gas projects, particularly in the pipeline sector.
“By joining the team at Stantec, we now have the opportunity to take on larger-scale projects throughout North America,” said Kirk Morrison, Cimarron president and CEO. “We will also benefit from being able to draw on Stantec’s other practice areas, such as environmental services and geomatics to better serve our clients.”
Stantec employs 12,000 workers at 190 locations in North America and another four international sites.
Cimarron was established in 1985.
Cimarron’s offices in Edmonton and Calgary will join Stantec’s existing oil and gas and power groups in those cities.
Stantec said it signed a letter of intent for the acquisition. No terms were disclosed.
