Ministry, firm set to develop e-learning studios for students

Panasonic has agreed to donate air conditione­rs to a ll current and new online studios to create a comfortabl­e env ironment for t he critica lly important work of educating children in t he Kingdom.

The initiative was decided upon during a meeting bet ween t he ministr y’s secretar y of state Kim Set hany, a representa­tive of Panasonic Asia Pacific and the ministr y’s informatio­n technolog y director.

“During the Covid-19 pandemic, t he ministr y will give online education to students in the Kingdom. But schools need electricit y to support the online classes Sethany said.

She thanked Panasonic for providing solar panels, and especially for donating them to schools in rural areas.

Panasonic’s regiona l director Maresuke Iijima said the first step of t he init iat ive is to prov ide current and planned online studios wit h air conditione­rs.

The air conditione­rs will make the classrooms more comfortabl­e and benefit the ministr y and teachers as they attempt to reach as many students as possible in the Kingdom with online education, Iijima said.

“We are still considerin­g what kind of support is best for society and the ministry,” he said.

Ministry spokesman Ros Soveacha said on Wednesday that it requested Panasonic to put solar panels in rural schools as they attempt to create online class studios.

“Solar panel insta l lat ion in schools will help generate electricit y to use during online classes at schools, especia lly t hose in r ura l areas. Panasonic is considerin­g t his request,” Soveacha said.

In the past, the company has helped to enhance the education sector in Cambodia by prov iding scholarshi­ps to students i n high school. It a lso gave solar panels to schools in t he countr yside, he said.
