Chinese man arrested for stabbing his ‘friend’
SIH ANOUK V ILLE police will send a Chinese nationa l to Preah Sihanouk prov incia l police on Tuesday after t he suspect was arrested in the cit y on Sunday night for assaulting and stabbing a fellow nationa l outside a hotel.
Sihanoukville cit y police chief Phol Posda told The Post on Monday t hat t he suspect will be sent to t he prov incia l police on Tuesday after being questioned for beating up his countr y man, seriously injuring t he latter.
“The conflict originated through Facebook chats between t he two men. They had a disagreement and the suspect ordered his ‘f r iend’ to meet him for a fight,” Posda said.
He said the suspect confessed that he and the v ictim were friends who had been chatting with each other on Facebook Messenger.
While exchanging messages, Posda said, the t wo men had a disagreement which they apparently could not let lie. After t hat, t he suspect arranged for a meeting bet ween himself and the v ictim, who was ordered to meet the suspect for a fight near a hotel located in Mittapheap district’s Commune III in Sihanoukville. Once t here, t he two came to blows.
Posda said during t he confrontation, the suspect stabbed t he v ictim with a k nife, seriously injuring him. Police inter vened quick ly and the v ictim was sent to the emergency room at Preah Sihanouk prov incia l referra l hospita l, while t he suspect was arrested.
A Ministr y of Interior report released last month said t hat at least 241 Chinese nationa ls were detained i n t he first t hree months of t his year.
The statistics indicate t hat Chinese nationa ls stand at first place in the number of foreigners arrested, surpassing Vietnamese, Thai, South Korean and US nationa ls.
The report said that during t he first quarter of t his year – from December 20 last year to March 19 – foreigners committed 82 offences across t he capita l and 11 prov inces.
A tota l of 341 people from 20 nationa lit ies were detained for committing 20 t y pes of offences. Chinese nationa ls committed 241 offences followed by Vietnamese (49), Thais (926), South Koreans (four) and Americans (t hree).
