According to a press release, stamps are a significant medium for global communication and storytelling, showcasing a nation’s heritage through themes such as conservation, education, and tourism. The “Beautiful Birds of Botswana” stamps encapsulate this narrative, highlighting the natural beauty and ecological significance of Botswana’s birdlife.

“At BotswanaPost, we believe in the power of stamps to tell compelling stories of our nation’s heritage.

This stamp issue is a testament to our commitment to preserving and showcasing Botswana’s natural beauty and fostering young artistic talent,” said Puleng Johnson, Philatelic Bureau Manager at BotswanaPost.

BotswanaPost Philatelic Bureau remains committed to empowering young Batswana artists by providing them a platform to showcase their creative talents, thereby enhancing their professional opportunities. By nurturing local talent, BotswanaPost aims to expand stamp collecting activities within Botswana, facilitating access to both local and international markets for Batswana.

Tasala Tabona Caiphus, a 22-yearold artist from Masunga Village, is the creative mind behind the artwork featured in this stamp issue. Botswana is home to approximately 570 bird species, including numerous Palaearctic and IntraAfrican migrants, as well as several nomadic species traversing Southern Africa. The country’s diverse habitats and central location, particularly the Okavango Delta and the Kgalagadi Pans, make it an essential stopover and destination for many migratory birds. This rich avian diversity underscores the importance of conservation efforts and the promotion of ecotourism for Botswana.
