Sibanda, Masilo miss Tokyo2021

-

Sibanda last represented the country at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and has suffered from injuries since. The Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) in 2019 suspended its support for 400m-runner, after he engaged an unaccredited manager. BNOC decided to halt support towards the athlete until the matter was resolved in 2020 when the 400m sensation returned to the track and was included in the national team, through a special dispensation. It was believed that the athlete has the potential to qualify for the Olympics.

The going got tough later on for the middle distance runner, as he struggled to get back to form. He failed to complete his race during an event organized by the BAA, a few months back due to a hamstring injury. The incident followed another one that occurred during the national championship when he was tripped by a block at the National Stadium. Another top athlete who has experienced his fair share of problems is Boitumelo Masilo, who has been struggling with form for a very long time. With limited competitions, the athlete was less likely to qualify for the Olympics. The Tokyo Olympics will kick start on the 23rd of this month and several runners, including Amantle Montsho (400m), Galefele Moroko (400m), Christene Botlogetswe (400m), Nigel Amos (400m), Leungo Scotch (400m) and Isaac Makwala (400m) are expected to shine on the world stage and raise the country’s flag high.
