Kgosipula Charity tourney postponed

- BY KABELO GADISE

The Covid 19 pandemic has distrupted yet another annual sporting event following the postponement of the Kgosipula Brothers Charity Easter Holiday tournament scheduled for Kumakwane village.

The event was scheduled for this April but the recent sport ban forced the event organisers to postpone indefinitely. “We had hoped that things will go back to normal sooner than later and we would be able to host the event without any problems,” said Siamang Kgosipula in an interview this week.

The charity football tournament is the brain child of three brothers well known for their goalkeeping talents in local football. The brothers Siamisang Kgosipula, Keagile Kgosipula and Karamelo Kgosipula have expressed disapointment over the latest developments regarding sporting events.

“We wanted this tournament to grow in leaps and bounds; we have had the very first addition which was a success and we had hoped by the third year we would be far from where we are currently,” he added.

The charity event includes a two day football spectacle played in their home village Kumakwane. It features teams in the village and others in the surrounding villages. The 2019 edition saw four teams featuring in the tournament: Digodi, Mochudi Center Chiefs, Kumakwane Cheekers and Kumakwane United.

Kumakwane United are currently the reigning champion of the tournament.

Proceedings of the tournament were donated to charity to help assist those who are less privileged in the village of Kumakwane. Although the event won’t be hosted this year, the brothers are confident that it will return bigger and better than before.

“We are appealing to the business community to help us with this project. We have had businesses that had shown interest in the project but due to the pandemic some have not been able to survive the past few months but we are hopeful that the event will be bigger and better upon its return.”
