Girl, 16, defiled by stepfather since 2016

A 46-year-old man in Goothata ward in Sojwe Village was arrested on Monday for allegedly defiling his 16 year-old stepdaught­er.

Sojwe Police Station Commander Superinten­dent Kitsiso Lemogang said the incident was reported on Monday by Machaneng Junior School authoritie­s. The Police Chief said the young girl disclosed the secret after her stepfather lied to the entire family that the young girl had started misbehavin­g and even got a boyfriend at school. Feeling insecure the man started to mistreat the girl.

“Upon questionin­g by the family the girl denied misbehavin­g but disclosed that she has been violated sexually by her stepfather. The family then took the matter to the school and it was reported to the police. According to the Police Chief, after the case was reported the minor indicated that the suspect had been using her sexually since 2016 and that she has been sleeping with him on the same bed since that time. She said that even this past weekend he was allegedly abusing her sexually. The young girl told the police that her mother stays in Medie village near Molepole while she stays with her stepfather and her sibling. Lemogang said the young girl was taken to Scottish Livingston­e Hospital in

Molepole for medical assistance. The man will appear at Molepolole Magistrate Court on Thursday. Meanwhile Police in Broadhurst are investigat­ing a case in which a 16-year-old girl was allegedly defiled by a 22-year-old man in Tsholofelo ward in Gaborone. Broadhurst Police Station Commander Superinten­dent, Obusitswe Lokae said the suspect was arrested on Monday by the police after the young girl’s parents noted that she long left home since 22 August 2020. Lokae said the parents indicated that their daughter arrived home with bruises on Monday and when questioned she noted that she was beaten by her boyfriend.

“The young girl highlighte­d that she has been in a romantic relationsh­ip with this man since January 2020 and she confirmed that the time she was missing from home she had spent time with this man. She noted that while she had visited him he allegedly abused her physically because her phone kept on ringing and the man beat her, he told her to stay home till she healed from the bruises, “said Lokae. According to Lokae the parents had been looking for their child from friends till she showed up at home. Lokae said the minor is schooling at Maoka Junior School in Gaborone noting that defilement cases in his police area are worrisome and they occur mostly at Tsholofelo and Extension 27 wards.
