Cobre to use ISCR on Kalahari Copper Belt
Copper and base- metals explorer on the Kalahari Copper Belt, Cobre has indicated intentions to use insitu copper recovery ( ISCR) process to extract extensive drill tested copper- silver mineralisation on its Ngami Copper project.
According to the company, the potential for employing an ISCR process was further supported by results from a second stage of metallurgical test work that demonstrated high recoveries of both copper and silver are possible by adding ferric sulphate and chloride to the leach system. The decision comes on the backdrop of Cobre becoming one of the beneficiaries of BHP Xplor, a cohort- based world- first accelerator program, dedicated to unearthing new critical mineral deposits.
Cobre, a copper and basemetals explorer with projects in Western Australia and Botswana was selected to participate in the 2024 BHP Xplor cohort. Cobre is currently exploring approximately 8,100 km2 of tenements within the Kalahari Copper Belt ( KCB) in Botswana. BHP will provide Cobre with US$ 500,000 ( approximately P6,868,131.87 million) in non- dilutive funding to support and accelerate its exploration plans during the Xplor Program period.
“The Xplor program provides us with a unique opportunity to partner with BHP experts to further our Kalahari Copper Belt targeting criteria and exploration programs.
“We’re looking forward to participating in the program and developing priority targets where the Xplor funding will provide further value for our shareholders,” said Cobre’s Chief Executive Officer, Adam Wooldridge. The Xplor Program provides participants not only with funding, but also with full access to BHP’s deep expertise and global partnerships. In addition, BHP Xplor merges concepts from both venture- capital and early- stage accelerators, to establish a fit- for- purpose exploration portfolio of innovative, early- stage mineral exploration companies and helps drive their exploration campaigns.
BHP says the Xplor Program is designed to create disruptive results in mineral exploration by identifying new concepts, leveraging new data and testing opportunities at a much faster pace than discoveries to date.
