BFA President to head- hunt CEO
Following the recent exit of his successor, Goabaone Taylor, the CEO post once again became vacant and the BFA top brass turned to Mfolo and convinced him to return to the association’s hot seat.
Whilst his expertise and capacity around the local game cannot be in question, there has been questions surrounding the procedure relating to his re- appointment. There was no job advert for the post and this is something which raised eyebrows to some close to the developments at BFA.. Close observers argue that, the CEO post should have been advertised to maintain the organization’s set corporate governance standards and give other interested candidates a fair chance to express their interests. “I do not have answers on this particular subject, the President is the one who makes decisions on the appointment of the CEO, he makes recommendations and the BNSC ( Botswana National Sports Commission) makes an approval. I don’t think I’m best placed to give an answer on that. I believe the
President has all the answers,” BFA 1st Vice President Masego Nchingane responded. Efforts to reach Maclean Letshwiti proved futile as his phone could not go through before going to print. “The president, through the powers entrusted in him by the constitution, has the prerogative to choose or head- hunt the CEO of the association. It is something that happened with the appointments of Kitso Kemoen, Ookeditse Malesu and even Mfolo’s first appointment, the post was not advertised, only Keith Masters and Taylor’s [ Goabaone] appointments were the ones advertised. The President did consult with the NEC before making the decision, it was agreed that Mfolo is the best candidate for the post,” a source within the NEC explained. Furthermore, BFA has not cleared the subject surrounding Mfolo’s exit last time out and there are more questions left than answers. Clarity as to what transpired in the last eight ( 8) months which must have absolved Mfolo from the accusations he faced prior to his exit, to make him the best candidate for the BFA’s CEO post. “It must be noted that Mfolo was able to stabilize the financial status of the association and the general feeling was that a reconciliation can be made and have him continue with the assignment. He did a mistake last time and we all make mistakes, both parties forgave each other. The current administration always makes decisions in the best interests of football development,” the source assured.
